DHS in the News

Journalists worldwide write about The DHS Program results. The dissemination of DHS, SPA and HIV data is often widely covered by media in survey countries, but journalists also use The DHS Program data throughout the year as background information for their stories, or to compare health and development indicators across countries. These data are also used by journalists in the United States and other developed countries, as it is considered the gold standard of population, health and nutrition data. Training journalists to use health data

...MEASURE DHS (Demographic and Health Surveys), in collaboration with the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) hosted a training-of-trainers in July in Entebbe, Uganda, to start developing a set of tools that African journalists can use to train others to use DHS data in reporting. This set of tools, and the possibility for future training, will be disseminated in collaboration with the newly founded African Health Journalists Association...

The result of the 2008 National Demographic and Health Survey mentioned that unmet need for family planning is the highest among the poor (28 percent) and less educated (29 percent) compared to country’s average (22 percent). The poor exhibited the lowest contraceptive use (26 percent).
